Designated a Chicago landmark district in 1977 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, the Old Town area has a rich past and tradition. Including some of the most interesting streets in Chicago, this neighborhood has made strong attempts to preserve the original character and charm of the neighborhood. While walking thru the community you can see the history reflected in the architecture and the "style" of the neighborhood. Its dedication to the arts is seen in the annual Old Town Art Fair that takes place in June. There is an array of theatres including the Steppenwolf Theatre and the legendary improvisational comedy theatre Second City where John and JimBelushi, Bill Murray, Chris Farley and Shelley Long got their starts. In the midst of many friendly and relaxed neighborhood restaurants and bars are renovated Victorian frame homes, brownstones and Queen Anne style homes.
